COVENTRY, R.I. -- Coventry Police are warning the public after a man attempted to lure a young girl into his vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

The twelve-year-old girl told police that she was walking along Laurel Avenue around 3 p.m. when she turned onto Centre Street. A man in a grey SUV pulled up alongside her and asked if she needed a ride home. The girl said no and backed away from the car, and the man drove away after noticing that a nearby resident had taken notice heading towards Pilgrim Avenue.

Police are looking for the public's help in learning more about the incident. The girl described the man as balding, older and white, with black-framed glasses. His vehicle is believed to be a newer-model Ford Escape. Anyone who was in the area at the time is encouraged to call 401-826-1100.
