The strong winds and heavy rains from a major storm moving through the area has brought widespread power outages across Rhode Island, including an outage that has darkened Coventry Middle School.
As a result, the school is closed this morning.
The closing was posted on the RI Broadcasters Closings and Cancellations network at around 6:45 a.m.
Coventry is the hardest hit town in Rhode Island in terms of power outages early this morning. More than 2,000 customers are without power, according to National Grid.
