Rep. Roberts: Public Deserves 38 Studios Information

"Enough. It is unacceptable to think that taxpayers should just move on from this extremely expensive boondoggle," the Coventry rep said.

Rep. Sherry Roberts (R- Dist. 29, West Greenwich, Coventry) issued the following statement:

Rep. Roberts agrees with the attorney for the former EDC to implore the Superior Court judge to lift the seal on court documents that have been filed to date in response to the lawsuit meant to recover some of the taxpayers’ millions of dollars lost when 38Studios failed.

“Taxpayers footed a bill that they never approved and the state just paid $2.2 million, the 2nd of multiple bond payments, to the only winners in this debacle – the bondholders. And here we are today, with the court poised to make critical decisions about the lawsuit going forward, yet we know nothing about what those decisions may be based on,” explained Representative Roberts.

“Enough. It is unacceptable to think that taxpayers should just move on from this extremely expensive boondoggle without being provided answers to their long standing questions.”

“If the parties to this case haven’t done anything wrong then why the secrecy?” queried Roberts.

Representative Roberts added, “There is no reason that the court should keep the documents under wraps. Should the judge disagree and conclude that there is good reason to keep the records sealed then my constituents would certainly like to know what that may be. Of course, should they remain wrapped in secrecy then that would only serve to continue to fan the flames of suspicion, leading to the tired, exasperating conclusion that politics will trump the taxpayers at all costs.”
