R.I. Among Top 10 States for Women's Equality

Hawaii was No. 1 on a report compiled by WalletHub.

Rhode Island was ranked one of the best states in the country when it comes to women’s equality.

WalletHub ranked each state in its “Best and Worst States for Women’s Equality” report. Rhode Island came in at No. 10. The Ocean State performed well in areas like workplace environment (No. 9), but lagged behind in areas like political empowerment (No. 34).

“Many women today still struggle to crack the proverbial glass ceiling,” the report said. “And it doesn’t take a feminist to convince anyone that the gender gap in 21st-century America remains disgracefully wide. In 2013, the U.S. failed to make the top 10—or even the top 20—of the World Economic Forum’s list of the most gender-equal countries.”
