RI Teens Can Work Out For Free At Planet Fitness This Summer
From May 15 to September 1, teens can work out for free at any of the gym's 15 Rhode Island locations.
This summer, teenagers in Rhode Island and across the country can work out for free at Planet Fitness. All Planet Fitness gyms, including the 15 locations in Rhode Island, will be free for anyone aged 15 through 18 from May to September.
The company's "Teen Summer Challenge" started as a test in New Hampshire in 2018 and was expanded nationwide this year. The company said 2,500 New Hampshire teens logged 12,000 gym visits during the challenge last year.
"We want to give teens the chance to stay active when school is out — a time when they may not otherwise have access to organized fitness or athletic programs, which is why we're offering a safe space to exercise for free and spend time with their friends all summer long," said Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau in a statement.

The program runs from May 15 through September 1. Teens can sign up in-person at a gym location near them. A parent or guardian is required at signup for anyone under 18. Teens can only workout at the gym where they signed up, and cannot use other locations.
Anyone who enrolls in the program will be entered to win a scholarship. One national $5,000 scholarship will be awarded, and each state will award one $500 scholarship as well. In addition, Planet Fitness will be giving away movie tickets, workout gear and more through social media giveaways throughout the summer. More information on the program is available here.
