Search Set For Tuesday For Missing Coventry Man

Family and friends of John Benevides have organized a search for Tuesday in hope of finding him. Benevides went missing a week ago Friday.

COVENTRY, RI — John Benevides, 46, of Coventry, was last seen June 16 near the Family Dollar parking lot. Coventry police do not have any updates on the case. His family has been trying to spread the word on social media. But now, a search is being organized. It will start on Tuesday from the area where he was last seen. According to his niece, Amanda Benevides, the searchers are meeting at 7 a.m. at the parking lot on Washington Street (Route 117) across from the Shell.

"Bill McIntosh will be leading it," she said. "We are looking for searchers and experienced kayakers." According to McIntosh's post, volunteers should bring bug repellent, water, and proper gear. McIntosh said he is looking for experienced searchers for the riverbank and the woodland sections. They're looking for five to seven kayakers to take the search out on the water.
