Small Fire in Classroom at Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School on Thursday

Coventry firefighters went to the Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School on Thursday for a small fire related to the power outages.

COVENTRY, RI — A small fire broke out in a classroom at the Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School on Thursday around 4:10 p.m.

According to fire Chief Robert Warren, no one was injured and the cause was "totally accidental." Two engines, a ladder, a rescue and the chief's car responded and stayed on scene for about 30 minutes, he said. They cleared at 4:42 p.m.

Schools Supt. Craig Levis said "oven mitts were left on or near a hot plate in a science room." After high winds knocked out power around 1:20 p.m., no one apparently noticed whether the hot plate had been left turned on.
