Town Holds Informational Meeting on Police Station Construction Tonight

Coventry voters on Nov. 8 will decide a ballot question about rehabilitating the human services building with a new addition for police.

COVENTRY, RI — Question 8 on the ballot asks voters whether they approve bonding $12 million to rehab the senior center and build a new addition for the police station.

The project's first phase would call for raising $4 million to $5 million for the new addition, and the second phase would encompass six to seven million for renovations to the existing human services building, where the senior center is located.

If you miss tonight's session, you can catch up Thursday when the police will hold an open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In a Frequently Asked Questions post, Col. John MacDonald, police chief, said there will be a tax increase, but there is also value in building the new station. For a $400,000 home, he estimated the bond would add $40 to the annual tax bill.
