Warrant Wednesday Continues with Suspected Car Thief

The Coventry police first participated with Warrant Wednesday last summer, and departments nationwide use it to get tips from the public.

COVENTRY, RI—Warrant Wednesday was started in the late summer of 2016, according to police Lt. Matthew Blair, after an initiative began to enlist the public’s help using social media to arrest some of Coventry’s more dangerous criminals.

Nathaniel Smith was named in the warrant Jan. 4, Blair said.

"A warrant was obtained for Smith after determining he was operating a vehicle in Coventry that was stolen from Warwick in October 2016. The vehicle was recovered unoccupied in West Greenwich, RI after a crash. Information was developed that led police to determine Smith had been operating the stolen vehicle in Coventry."
