WATCH: Library Cam Captures Storm's Power
Just try to count the number of lightning strikes as these recycling bins are tossed around.
To get a sense of the power of the unexpected storm on Tuesday that knocked out power to more than 100,000 and uprooted huge trees, check out this video.
The video is from a security camera looking out on the recycling bins outside the Central Library in Cranston.
What you see is four minutes of driving rain, near-hurricane force winds and lightning strikes occurring every few seconds. It’s the same scene many residents of Cranston, Warwick, Coventry, West Warwick and other parts of central Rhode Island woke up to on Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately, the video lacks audio, which would have captured the overwhelming sound of constant thunder from the hundreds of lightning strikes occurring simultaneously in an area of just a few miles.
Many who were woken up by the storm Tuesday morning said it looked like the Wizard of Oz when they peered outside.

Library director Ed Garcia said that a total of five bins got carried away, but considering how destructive the storm was in general, it could have have been much worse.
“We have recovered them all and they are resting comfortably back in their places,” he said.
