What Is Paintball? And Is It A Sport?

Shooting balls filled with paint at another player with A gas activated gun. Who would think of this being a sport or even a real thing. Well it is, it’s called Paintball and i have participated in the sport for almost five years.

The sport was just a thought in the Early 1960’s where a company called The Nelson Paint Company™ started manufacturing a “squirt gun” called the “Nel-spot 007”. This was the first ever paintball marker to enter a game, or as they called them “survival games”. This name came from The three biggest names in paintball, . They are so popular because they are the people who decided to make the game. Without these guys the thousands of of people the do the sport would be nothing and the teams who get paid to do this would have nothing. Ever since the sport was created it has had many modifications in names and the way it’s played.
Right now there is four different types of paintball Woodsball, Speedball, X-ball, and Scenario. I pacifically play Woodsball and Scenario, but each type has different rules. but they all focus around the “survival game” rules which is to eliminate the enemy team, or complete missions to win. Some times if the event is big enough it will be televised.

People say the sport is bad because of the thought of shooting each other with air guns full of paint. Some don’t even look at the statistics. In an article i was reading there was a chart with the injuries from different sports out of one thousand precipitants. Paintball had 0.24% of players get injured with something related to paintball.
Along with the statistics and the players honesty one thing that hurts paintball the most is bringing new players to the field. One because some parents don’t want their kids to get hurt, and because kids are no longer interested in the sport which leads the sport to die. We can fix this by teaching the safety of the sport to kids and their parents. Forming groups and teams with local fields could help bring more people to fields along with make the sport bigger in the area.
