16 Displaced After Boy Lights Couch On Fire In Providence
The child was alone in the apartment and playing with a lit candle when he accidentally lit the couch on fire.
PROVIDENCE, RI — A 7-year-old boy accidentally lit the couch on fire in his family's third-floor apartment on Thursday night while home alone, according to reports. The fire displaced 16 people from the Hudson Street building, which sustained smoke and water damage.
The boy was left alone because his mother had to leave for work and his father had not come home yet, WPRI reported. The fire started when he began playing with a lit candle, igniting the couch. As it spread, the boy hit the window, alerting two people who were parking their car on the street below. The pair was able to rescue the child, and all three people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to WPRI.
