AG Investigating Death Of Man Restrained By Police In Cranston: Report

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and was pronounced dead there after being restrained, authorities said.

CRANSTON, RI — An investigation has opened into the death of a man who Cranston police put in restraints before emergency officials took him to the hospital, according to a spokesperson for Attorney General Peter Neronha's Office.

A spokesperson for the attorney general's office told WPRI the joint death investigation between the office, Cranston police and Rhode Island State Police stemmed from police responding to a Cranston hotel for a man needing medical assistance Thursday morning.

"At some point during the interaction, police assisted fire personnel by restraining the individual," Brian Hodge, a spokesperson for Neronha’s office, told WPRI 12.
