📰 News we're reading

1. Providence Man Charged With Taking Cocaine To Or From ACI: Cops (patch.com) — Cranston readers are learning that a Providence man has been charged in connection with allegedly bringing cocaine to or from the Adult Correctional Institutions located in the city. State police say their Special Investigations Unit led the probe, and the 48-year-old suspect was arraigned, given a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, and held as a superior court violator.

2. 2 injured in rollover crash near Cranston-Johnston line (coastalabc.com) — Traffic on Plainfield Pike in Cranston was disrupted Thursday after a dump truck with an apparent mechanical problem veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an HVAC tow truck near the Cranston–Johnston line. Both drivers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries, and Cranston police say their preliminary investigation points to mechanical failure as the cause.

3. Here are the winners from a busy night of high school games Thursday (providencejournal.com) — Cranston East and Cranston West both feature prominently in a packed night of Rhode Island high school sports, with East rolling past Mount Pleasant and West falling to La Salle. The roundup also highlights Cranston teams' recent volleyball and field hockey results and lists several upcoming games, including Cranston West hosting North Kingstown and Cranston East facing West Warwick at Cranston Stadium.

4. Rhode Island once had a vast network of trolleys. Can it bring back just one? (bostonglobe.com) — RIPTA is studying a major new transit line that could link Central Falls, Pawtucket, Providence, and Cranston, with some options ending at Park Avenue or running along Reservoir Avenue in Cranston. The proposals range from a rapid bus line to a billion‑dollar light rail system, promising faster service, new housing opportunities, and better access to jobs if state and federal funding come together.
