Cranston Finance Committee Advances Contract Oversight (upriseri.com) β Cranston's Finance Committee has advanced a new ordinance that would require City Council approval for any contract or change order of $100,000 or more, despite legal objections from the administration. Members also raised alarms about an $8.3 million city deficit, a $1 million school deficit, and shrinking rainy day funds, while moving forward Knightsville liquor licenses and pressing the state over unfunded education mandates.

Best Haunted Houses And Terrifying Halloween Attractions In Rhode Island (patch.com) β Cranston thrill-seekers have a couple of standout options on this year's haunted map, including the House of 1,000 Pumpkins Halloween Haunt and the Skeletons on Dean Street display. A free app called FrightMaps helps Rhode Islanders find these and other spooky attractions statewide, and even lets users add their own favorite local haunts.

RI Lottery Powerball, Numbers Midday winning numbers for Oct. 7, 2026 (newportri.com) β If you bought a Rhode Island Lottery ticket, you can now check the Oct. 7 Powerball, Numbers, Wild Money, and Millionaire for Life winning numbers and see if you've scored a prize. Smaller wins can be cashed at any retailer, but prizes of $600 or more must be claimed at Lottery Headquarters on Pontiac Avenue in Cranston.

Man arrested on DUI charge in Lincoln (newportdispatch.com) β A 24-year-old Cranston resident was arrested in Lincoln after a crash on Route 146, where state police say his blood alcohol level tested more than twice the legal limit. He was arraigned and released to a responsible adult, while troopers also reported a separate late-night arrest in Providence for resisting legal arrest.
