Volunteers Needed -- The Governor Sprague Mansion is hosting an annual Spring Clean Up and Grounds Beautification Day on SATURDAY, APRIL 18 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at 1351 Cranston St. (If it rains, it is cancelled.)What to Wear:Outside Work Attire 

What to Bring:Gloves, rakes, weedwackers, leaf bags--if possible. If you can bring along a chain saw/leaf blower ~ that is appreciated!
Do you need Community Service Hours? Register &amp; bring proper form with you.

In honor of International Tai Chi &amp; Qigong Day, join us at the beautiful Rose Larisa Memorial Park (aka Crescent Park). We will celebrate by practicing qigong under the trees overlooking the Providence River.
Similar to tai chi, qigong was developed as a healing art. Most of the movements are done slowly while standing. This gentle yet powerful practice puts us in touch with our own vital energy (qi). Whether to naturally relieve pain, maintain wellbeing, or find deeper spiritual connection, qigong is beneficial.

The JAYCEES of Central Rhode Island are pleased to share our Earth Day Month schedule and invite your students, faculty, and service groups to participate in a series of educational, environmental, and community‑building events at the award‑winning JAYCEE Arboretum and Senator Roch Riverwalk in Riverpoint Community Park, 106 Hay Street, West Warwick.
EVENT SCHEDULE
• Saturday, April 25 – Earth Day Kickoff Land Survey Review and Arboretum Walk to open Earth Day Month.
• Saturday, May 9 – 29th Annual Ecology Day &amp; Peace Prayer Ceremony at 10:00 AM Includes participation from religious leaders, veterans, civic groups, and volunteers. One hundred flowers will be planted in memory of the Station Fire Victims. Arbor Day activities and a community service project are included.
• Weekly Clean‑ups &amp; Green‑ups – certain days at 10:30 AM Held April through October 31, weather permitting. Open to students, clubs, and service organizations per reservations.
West Warwick, the host community at the quandrant of the Cities of Cranston &amp; Warwick and the Towns of Coventry &amp; Scituate is recognized as a TREE CITY USA community, via the RIDEM Forestry &amp; National Arbor Day Foundation and the Arboretum serves as a living outdoor classroom for ecology, environmental science, and community service.We welcome schools, colleges, student organizations, and service clubs to join us or to coordinate group participation. These events offer meaningful opportunities for volunteer hours, environmental education, and community engagement.

April 26 1 to 3pm American Girl Doll Afternoon Tea.&nbsp; Cranston Historical Society invites you to their fund raising event: American Girl Doll Tea at the historic Governor Sprague Mansion, grand ballroom. Our host is Kirsten Lawson, mid-1850s.Kirsten is a Swedish immigrant of strength and spirit, who traveled with her family to Minnesota. The event is perfect for children and adults.Young folks can bring an American Girl Doll or favorite doll along with an adult--or borrow one of our dolls. Limited seating. Tickets: $22 per person. An Arbor ECOLOGY DAY &amp; PEACE PRAYER CEREMONY will briefly offer A Spiritual Moment to reflect on the tremendous sacrifice that America enjoys in keeping the PEACE ... worldwide!
A Military Honor Guard &amp; Calling will be conducted with area Clergy, Veterans, Police &amp; Scouts who would graciously participate with their fellow Americans. ~ We welcome participants and those that want to perform!
Also, public remembrance will take place for the Station Fire Victims in cultivating 100 flowers along the Esplanade of the Arboretum.
~ We welcome Volunteers!
Volunteers can choose to assist the JAYCEES with a variety of horticultural activities such as planting flowers and shrubbery, spreading fresh mulch, watering planting beds and sprucing-up the area of the JAYCEE Corridor &amp; Arboretum and the portal entrance to the state Senator Donald Roch RIVERWALK at the Riverpoint COMMUNITY Park @ 110 Hay Street in W. Saturday, May 23 | 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Developed as a healing art, qigong is a gentle yet empowering movement practice that strengthens your vital energy (qi). Similar to tai chi, it is usually practiced slowly while standing, but because it does not involve a specific sequence of movements it is simpler to learn. No experience needed.
Following qigong practice, we will settle onto the floor to learn a few self-acupressure points. (A couple chairs will be available if needed.) The workshop will conclude with a brief meditation, either seated or supine, in which acupressure will be offered. Bring a mat or blanket if you have one, and wear loose clothing.

Voices of the Earth: The Future of Our Planet IV - Building Innovative Bridges for Tomorrow will be officially released at a special event on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM in the William Hall Library Auditorium (1825 Broad Street Cranston, RI 02905).We warmly invite you to join Notable Works, Stormwater Innovation Center and the Cranston Public Library for this inspiring event, where guests will have the opportunity to be among the first to experience a new collection of original poems and artworks. Each piece is thoughtfully created around the theme: “Bridging the Divide and Coming Together for a Common Goal.” Beyond showcasing creative voices, this beautiful publication also includes a listing of nearly 100 dedicated environmental agencies across Rhode Island. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating music, art, poetry, and the collective power of community as we work towards a more sustainable and innovative future!
This special celebration will feature an inspiring lineup of speakers, poets, artists, composers and musicians whose expertise and creativity enrich this “Voices of the Earth” event. Scientist Sara Sampieri Horvet of the Stormwater Innovation Center, who brings over twenty years of experience in water quality science will deliver the keynote address. Notable Works is also proud to present readings by six poets whose works are included in this new publication:
<ul><li>Christopher Gaynor — Employed by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Christopher has served in the United States Peace Corps in Tanzania and as an American corps serviceman in VT. </li><li>Kate Hamilton — As a member of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust’s Board of Directors and a volunteer at the East Bay Food Pantry in Bristol, Kate enjoys creating art and especially writing poetry about nature and the world around her.</li><li>Theresa Hickey — An award-winning poet and freelance writer, Theresa is honored to have recently published her fourth collection of poems.</li><li>Janet D. Johnson — As professor of English Education at Rhode Island College and site director for the Rhode Island Writing Project (RIWP), Janet works with K-12 teachers on integrating writing and critical literacy both inside and outside the classroom.</li><li>Peg Paolino — A wife, mother, grandmother, and retired nurse, Peg finds writing poetry to be a meaningful way of sharing her thoughts and reflections.</li><li>Sherri Stepakoff — Sherri served as the inaugural poet in residence at Unity Farm Sanctuary, an animal rescue farm in Sherburn, Massachusetts. Her poetry collection, Sanctuary at Unity Farm, will be released this summer.</li></ul>
This June 27th celebration will also showcase a musical performance by the Notable Works’ Ensemble, premiering new works by Notable Works’ Artist and Residence Noreen Inglesi and special guest composer and performer Mary Zema. There will also be a premiere of a newly created video which brings to light the great work of Stormwater Innovation Center at Roger Williams Park.
Whether you are a passionate supporter of the arts or simply curious about local environmental efforts, this event promises to offer something special for everyone. We look forward to your presence as we unite in celebration and inspire each other to make a lasting impact.
