CNBLL Girls are NE Champs, Take on Mid-Atlantic Champs on Thursday

The Cranston National Budlong LIttle League Softball 9-10 All Stars are officially the New England champions after defeating North Branford, Conn., 5-2 on Monday.

The win puts them in top-seed position as they face off against the Mid-Atlantic champion, which has yet to be determined, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game will head to the East Coast championship.

On Monday, the team was buoyed by a stellar pitching performance by Josie Di Troia, who pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and scattering just four hits.

Behind the plate, Sydney Casale smashed a double, two triples, scoring three runs and driving in three.

Liz Lewandowski was wearing her Golden Glove, turning in five assists from second base.

The game was tied 2-2 after one inning, and that’s when Di Troia focused and ket Connecticut batters guessing the rest of the game. That allowed the CNBLL girls to chip away and put a run on the board in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
