Cranston East Cheerleaders Prepare for States
The Cranston East cheerleaders finished fourth at the Mt. Hope Invitational and continue to work on their routine.
Ranked second in the state among varsity competition cheerleading teams, the Cranston High School East squad is still a work in progress.
“We’ve changed our opening and improved the skill level of our pyramid,” said head coach Jennifer Koscho. “I would still like to see more tumbling in our routine and add some more difficulty to our stunting.”
On Saturday, the Thunderbolts finished fourth out of seven teams at the Mt. Hope High School Invitational.

“We had some trouble with our stunting,” explained Koscho. “Fourth place was a fair result.”
Tolman High, which is ranked first in the state, won the Mt. Hope competition with a score of 83.5. North Providence was runner-up with 79 points, followed by Portsmouth with 76.5. The Thunderbolts tallied 70 points.

The most improved cheerleader for Cranston East this year has been senior Sarah Palumbo.
“Sarah constantly strives to improve,” stated Koscho. “She always has a positive attitude.”
The varsity cheerleaders weren’t the only ones to represent Cranston East on Saturday. The junior varsity cheerleaders made their first appearance of the season in a competition.
“The JV team has had a tough season because they’ve lost five girls to grades and injuries,” said Koscho. “The girls were nervous before they went on, but they did a good job. They’re good kids.”
The JV team finished runner-up to Mt. Hope.
