Cranston Police Chief, Suffering from Pneumonia, Postpones Second "Coffee with the Chief" Event

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist is suffering from an extended illness and has been forced to postpone tomorrow’s planned ”Coffee with the Chief” event at Brewed Awakenings for a second time in as many weeks.

Winquist had to postpone the event planned for last week after being stricken with influenza, which “unfortunately devolved into pneumonia,” according to a police department release.

“The Colonel looks forward to rescheduling this event as soon as possible and continuing the Department’s mission of direct contact with the public to solve those problems that affect our community.”

The first of the Coffee with the Chief events was held at Little Falls Bakery and Cafe in Pawtuxet Village and has been considered a success.

Winquist was sworn in last fall and has made interacting with the public one of his top priorities. The coffee hours are a way for residents to get to meet the chief in person, talk about his mission, discuss ongoing issues in the city as well as the future of law enforcement in general.
