Cranston Police Officer Arrested, Charged With Assault
Andrew Leonard, 45, was charged with simple assault related to an incident at the department in March.
CRANSTOM, RI — A Cranston police officer is facing charges after Rhode Island State Police said he used forced within the department. Andrew Leonard, 45, was charged with simple assault.
According to state police, Cranston Police Colonel Michael Winquist reached out to the department on March 27 to investigate a "use of force incident" at the department. Leonard was arrested Monday and processed at State Police Headquarters. He was arraigned by a justice of the peace and released on personal recognizance.
If convicted, Leonard faces up to a year in prison, a fine up to $1,000 or both.
