CRANSTON, RI โ€” With April vacation less than a week away and spring testing looming large, there are several important dates to mark on the calendar before the end of the school year in June. Here are five things to know for the end of the school year.


  1. Spring Recess: April 15-19 Unlike several other school districts in Rhode Island, Cranston schools still have two week-long breaks in February and April. Good Friday is included in April vacation.
  2. Spring Testing Schedule: Standardized testing is scheduled for all grades throughout the rest of the school year. Here's the schedule:
    1. April: Fountas and Pinnell/RIGBY โ€“ Intervention Students Only - K-2
    2. April 1 โ€“ May 3: RICAS ELA Testing โ€“ Grades 3-8
    3. April 2 โ€“ May 24: RICAS Math Testing โ€“ Grades 3-8
    4. April 8 โ€“ May 24: Dynamic Learning Maps Alternate Assessment โ€“ English-Language Arts and Math (Grades 3-8 and 11), Science (Grades 5, 8 and 11)
    5. April 9: SATSD 11
    6. April 9 โ€“ April 11: PSATSD 10 (NEW - computer based and 3 day window)
    7. April 22 โ€“ May 24: NGSS Science Assessment โ€“ Grades 5, 8, and 11
    8. April 23: SATSD 11 and PSATSD 10 make-ups
    9. May 3: RICAS ELA Testing ends
    10. May 24: RICAS Math, DLM and NGSA Science testing ends
    11. May: STAR Reading/Math โ€“ Grades 2-11 โ€“ All Students
    12. May: STAR Early Literacy โ€“ Grs K & 1 and Gr 2 students who canโ€™t pass the initial five questions on STAR Reading
    13. TBD: District Math Assessment โ€“ Grades K & 1โ€ข AAPPL Testing (Seal of Bi-Literacy)
    14. June: Fountas and Pinnell/RIGBY โ€“ Grades K-2 - All Students; Grades 3-5 Intervention Students Only
  3. Memorial Day: May 27 Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the summer season and the last three-day weekend of the school year.
  4. Last Day of School: June 17 School was scheduled to end on June 14, but the date was moved due to a snow day.
  5. Graduation: June 7 and 8: Cranston High Scool East and West both graduate on June 8, while the NEL/CPS Construction Career Academy graduates on June 7.
