Cranston Trash Pickup Affected by Storm

The snowstorm that dumped about 20 inches of snow in Cranston has also made a bit of a mess of the city’s trash and recycling pickup schedule.

Monday and Tuesday customers will not be picked up this week. And on Thursday, when Waste Management begins picking up waste, only Thursday customers will be serviced.

Customers not serviced this week will have an opportunity to get rid of the extra trash next week, said Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung.

Part of the complications stem from the fact that many Friday and Saturday customers were missed last week because of a previous snowstorm.

The city has worked out an arrangement with Waste Management to ensure that all trash — including extra bags left on the street — will be picked up next week for customers who were missed this week.

Normally, no waste that isn’t put into one of the city-issued bins would be ignored on the side of the road. But the snowstorm is a unique circumstance.

Fung acknowledged that the schedule will be frustrating for some.

“While painful, this process will allow us to catch up for those missed on Friday and Saturday of last week and also keep us on schedule as best as possible,” Fung said.
