Face Masks, Other Coronavirus Executive Orders Extended In RI
Mask-wearing, the state's emergency declaration and other coronavirus-related executive orders were extended to Aug. 3.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Tuesday marks the beginning of Phase Three of reopening in Rhode Island, which allows for larger gatherings both indoors and outside, larger capacity in stores and restaurants and the return of visitation in nursing homes. Gov. Gina Raimondo also extended several coronavirus-related executive orders, including the requirement to wear masks in public.
The following executive orders were extended to Aug. 3.
- Face coverings: All residents must wear a fabric face covering, both indoors and outdoors, when at least 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained with others. Masks must cover both the nose and mouth and can be a scarf, bandanna or another improvised covering. Exceptions: children under 2 years old and those who cannot wear a face covering for health reasons.
- Telemedicine: Health insurance providers must cover telehealth visits for primary care, specialty care and mental and behavioral health care, both over the phone and through videoconference. Reimbursement rates for providers must be the same as reimbursement rates for in-office visits.
- State of Emergency: Rhode Island's disaster declaration was extended to ensure Raimondo and the state government have access to resources to respond quickly to the pandemic.
- Gun background checks: The waiting period for gun background checks is still extended to 30 days from seven, at the request of local police.
- Quarantine: Residents and visitors must follow the state's latest quarantine guidelines.
