βI never misled the Mayor. Never. Nor did I mislead anyone else. I did what I said I would do as police chief, whether the decisions I made were popular or not. I was never influenced by politics in making my determinations of what was right for our department. Iβm not perfectβin fact, I am far from being perfect, but Iβm honest. I believe that when all of the facts come out, and are viewed by fair-minded decision makers, these will be the findings. Iβll leave it to those same fair-minded decision makers to determine the fate of others, including anyone who have stated that Iβve done anything wrong. Thatβs the way our system works. I believe in our system, Iβve served it for 29 years. Iβm confident that it will treat me fairly in the end.β
