Fuel Up to Play 60 presents Cranston Public Schools with Checks
Fuel Up to Play 60 Awards Gladstone Street Elementary and Hugh B. Bain Middle School with Grants to promote healthy lifestyles.
Gladstone Street Elementary and Hugh B. Bain Middle Schools are taking the lead for student health by participating in a nationwide wellness initiative. Community-focused and fun, Fuel Up to Play 60 is activating schools and communities to support school wellness initiatives, good nutrition and physical activity, which help educate students and curb obesity. In partnership with the National Dairy Council (NCD) and the National Football League (NFL), both schools and it’s students are recruiting friends, parents, teachers and business and community leaders to join them in pledging to adopt healthier behaviors, such as choosing foods encouraged by the United States Department of Agriculture, which has also joined the initiative, and committing to 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Gladstone Elementary and Bain Middle School will host “Kick-off for the Spring” events March 6th, 2015 during Kidventure and Bain+2 the 21st Century Afterschool Programs at each school. Students will host the events from 2:30pm – 4:30pm at each site which will promote their wellness initiative along with their goals of choosing a healthy lifestyle. Community members are encouraged to get involved with these events.
“Our student ambassador teams at Kidventure and Bain+2 are very excited that Fuel Up to Play 60 has activated Gladstone and Bain through these awards,” says Ayana Crichton, Program Director of 21st Cranston Community Learning Center and Program Adviser for Fuel Up to Play 60. “Students have been working hard at creating community gardens and inventing healthy eating choices like smoothies since last spring. They are extremely grateful that they can continue their efforts and now add in new initiatives like 60 minutes of physical activities opened up during after school hours for all the community to join and be a part of. Fuel Up provides that healthy message for our students and wonderful resources for our facilitators to encourage healthy lifestyles and positive choices.”
