PROVIDENCE, RI — An online fundraiser has been launched to benefit the family of a woman killed by her estranged husband in a murder-suicide over the weekend. Oscar Hudson, 50, fatally shot Berta Bogran Hudson, 48, on Saturday afternoon before turning the gun on himself.

In just one day, the GoFundMe page has raised more than $7,000 of its $10,000 goal. The funds will be used to help the family cover the cost of her funeral. Hudson left behind three children and her family, whom she card for.

The victim was officially identified as Berta Hudson by Providence police and as Berta Bogran by her family on the GoFundMe page.

According to the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Hudson was visiting a relative on Saturday when she was killed on Charles Street. Her estranged husband had a history of domestic violence, the coalition said, saying that he never should have had access to a gun.

A message from the victim's son, Juan Fernandez Bogran, asked for privacy as the family grapples with their grief.

"We want to thank everyone for having us in your prayers and reaching out. I ask that everyone respects our privacy and space as we grieve my mothers passing," Bogran said. "We will not be answering any calls or messages at this time. Thank you for your understanding."
