Jan. 31 The Last Day To Register To Vote For RI Special Election

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Islanders only have a few days left to reister to vote in the upcoming special election in March. The deadline to register is Sunday.

Residents have two options to register to vote in Rhode Island: online using the Secretary of State's website or submit a form to their local board of canvassers. Completed applications can also be dropped into one of the secure Board of Elections drop boxes located around the state.

"The bond questions on the March 2 ballot represent nearly half a billion dollars in investment for issues important to Rhode Islanders – things like education, housing, childcare, the environment, and roads and bridges," Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea said. "If you want a say in how the state allocates this money, the first step is to make sure you’re registered to vote and that your registration is up to date."

As was the case in 2020's elections, voters can cast their ballot by mail, early in-person at their town or city hall or in person at their polling place on election day. Voters have until Feb. 9 to submit their mail ballot application.

The seven statewide bond questions had to be delayed past the General Election in November because of coronavirus-related delays in the state's budget process. Most communities are funding the March 2 election using grant funding Gorbea's office received on October 2020.
