Northbound I-95 Oxford Streets Lane Splits Removed Friday

Lane splits will still be in place on the southbound side of the highway.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Ongoing lane shifts on the Oxford Street Bridge on Interstate 95 is entering the home stretch. On Friday, all lane splits will be removed from the northbound side of the highway, where all lanes will be shifted to the right. The southbound side will have just one split lane.

A series of rotating lane shifts have been in place throughout July and August as crews work to replace the bridge deck of the bridge, which is located just north of Thurbers Avenue.

The new southbound shifts will have one lane to the left and four to the right.

Drivers are asked to stay in their lane throughout the work zone, as stopping or changing lanes slows traffic and increases the chance of a crash. The lane shifts have slowed traffic in the area, so drivers are asked to leave extra time when traveling in and out of the city.

Starting next week, the split will be removed from I-95 south, ending the lane shifts. Both sides of the highway will be shifted to the right until the end of September.
