
As a potentially historic blizzard bears down on Rhode Island, local officials are making preparations in advance.
A parking ban will go into effect in Cranston at 4 p.m. today and will last until further notice.
The storm is expected to arrive on Monday afternoon and will blast the area with anywhere from one-and-a-half to three feet of snow along with wind gusts up to 60 mph. Whiteout conditions and heavy snowfall will make for extremely treacherous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service upgraded the earlier Blizzard Watch to a Blizzard Warning on Sunday afternoon.
Residents are recommended to complete all non-essential travel by noon Monday and plan on staying put afterwards. Roads are expected to be impassable later Monday afternoon and driving bans could be imposed.
