Pawtucket Man Charged In DUI Crash That Injures Cranston Woman

The crash caused a 27-year-old Cranston woman to be ejected from the vehicle, police said.

WARWICK, RI — A Pawtucket man was arrested after police said he drove under the influence of alcohol, leading to a crash in Warwick and a Cranston woman being ejected from the car and suffering serious injuries.

Filipe Barros, 33, was charged with driving to endanger resulting in serious personal injury, driving under the influence of liquor or drugs resulting in serious bodily injury, DUI of liquor (first offense, blood alcohol unknown) and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police said the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Warwick Avenue and Killey Avenue. Barros' passenger, Yasmibel Lora Pena, 27, of Cranston, was ejected from the vehicle when it struck a utility pole, according to police. Pena suffered serious injuries and is still being treated at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

Police said Barros and a 20-year-old passenger from Providence in the back seat were not injured.
