Police: Cranston Stabbing "Was Not a Criminal Act"

Police said residents can feel safe that there is no perpetrator at large.

Cranston police now say that it was not a criminal act that caused a woman to suffer a stab wound in a house on Oaklawn Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist said that after further investigation, detectives have determined that the injury β€œwas not the result of a criminal act.”

The woman, a 36-year-old Cranston woman, is expected to recover from her wounds and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after responders arrived at the house at 1068 Oaklawn Avenue.

Winquist said that the investigation included an interview with the woman.

β€œThe residents of the neighborhood can be assured that their safety is not compromised and there are no perpetrator(s) at large,” Winquist said.
