Police: Man Raped and Molested Boy, Girl

Sergio Resto, 31, of Providence, was arrested Thursday.

A Providence man is facing charges of rape and child molestation for allegedly preying on a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy in Cranston.

Cranston police arrested Sergio Resto, 31, of 65 Gillen St., Providence, Thursday morning after he turned himself in to police following the department’s investigation into the alleged crimes.

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael J. Winquist said a 14-year-old victim in April of 2014 made a complaint that Resto raped her. In may of 2015, a 16-year-old boy ”[accused] him of similar acts.”

“Both victims were residing with Mr. Resto in the city of Cranston at the time of the alleged assaults,” Winquist said in a release.

Cranston police detectives along with investigators from the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families conducted an “extensive investigation” with help from the state attorney general’s office, Winquist said.

Resto turned himself in after police got a warrant and he was arraigned at Kent County District Court on two charges of first-degree child molestation and a count each of second degree child molestation and first degree sexual assault.

Resto is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions.
