Providence Man Found With 70 Grams Of Fentanyl: State Police

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man is facing drug and weapons charges after state police found fentanyl, a gun, cash and other drug paraphernalia in his Rounds Avenue apartment. Jonathan Rodriguez, 32, could face up to half a century in prison if convicted.

According to Rhode Island State Police, members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force found 70 grams of fentanyl, a 9mm handgun and ammunition, $500 cash and scales and packaging material inside the basement apartment. Rodriguez was arrested and arraigned in Sixth District Court in Providence and ordered held as a bail violator.

Rodriguez was charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, a schedule II controlled substance; possession of fentanyl, one ounce to one kilogram, possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation and possession of a firearm by certain persons prohibited.

If found guilty of the fentanyl possession charge, Rodriguez will face up to 50 years in prison and fined up to $500,000.
