PROVIDENCE, RI โ€” The stork has once again made a stop at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Last week, the zoo welcomed a new baby golden lion tamarin, born just in time for World Monkey Day.

The baby was born to mom Raff and dad Kyle on Friday. Both parents will care for and carry the newborn during its infancy.

A video posted by the zoo shows the baby monkey, which came into the world covered in golden fur and with its eyes open.

The golden lion tamarin was on the the first species to be part of The Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival Plans, a conservation effort across institutions. In 1980, the species's population reached an all-time low, with less than 100 animals in the wild. By 2000, that number had soared to 1,000 animals, many of whom were re-introduced after captive breeding.

"Today, we continue to work with other Zooโ€™s around the globe to save this endangered species," the zoo said.
