Sepe Will Lead Cranston Democrats for Another Term

Michael J. Sepe’s name isn’t on the City Council’s dais, or on any door in City Hall, but his political influence has been an ever-present force for years in this city as he’s served as chairman of the Cranston Democratic City Committee.

On Monday, Sepe was reelected as chairman for the 2015-2016 term with no opposition from the 47 members attending the committee meeting. It marks another reelection for Sepe, who has served as chairman since 1997.

In his acceptance speech, Sepe vowed to work “tirelessly to elect a Democrat as mayor” in 2016 along with a Democratic City Council “to work together to keep property taxes in check while leading Cranston forward.”

Democrats have held a majority on the City Council for several years and Sepe said the council can take credit for the lack of a tax increase in the city for three consecutive years.

Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung, a Republican, has pointed to the tax-increase-free budgets as one of his major accomplishments over his tenure as mayor, including his unsuccessful bid for Governor in 2014.

Also elected to the committee for two year terms were: Edward DiMuccio, 1st Vice Chair; Jacqueline Hersey, 2nd Vice Chair; Steven Carrera, Financial Secretary; Steven McGovern, Recording Secretary; Richard DelSesto, Treasurer; Nicholas Mannocchio, Parliamentarian.
