Several RI Communities Offering Weekend Early Voting

With just a few days left until the election, several communities are giving voters the chance to cast their ballot this weekend.

The Nov. 3 general election is just a few days away, and to help make sure everyone has the opportunity to have their vote count, several communities are offering residents the opportunity to vote early in person over the weekend. Five cities and towns — Central Falls, Providence, East Providence, Glocester and Westerly will all be open for limited voting hours on Saturday.

As of Friday, more than 115,000 Rhode Island voters had cast their ballot early at their city or town hall. According to Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea's office, more than 31 percent of the state's eligible voters have already exercised their right to vote.

"The response to early in-person voting has been phenomenal," Gorbea said. "We’ve consistently had over 10,000 Rhode Islanders cast their ballot each day this week, even with the bad weather. High turnout elections nurture our democracy, making sure that a diversity of voices is heard."

Voters can cast their ballot early until 4 p.m. on Monday. Those who requested a mail ballot but have not yet returned it are urged to hand-deliver it to one of the state's secure elections drop-boxes, since all ballots must be received by the Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on election night to be counted.
