Storm Cancels School in Cranston on Monday; Trash Delayed

It’s déjà vu all over again as another winter storm is expected to bring between six and eight inches of snow in Cranston beginning late Sunday into Monday.

As a result, Cranston students will have the day off from school once again on Monday after a very short week last week thanks to the blizzard that kept them out of school from Tuesday until Friday.

A parking ban will go into effect at midnight and will continue until further notice, according to the Cranston Police Department.

All Cranston Public Library locations will be cancelled as well.

The storm has also thrown another wrinkle into the trash collection schedule. There will be no pickup on Monday and the rest of the week will operate on a one-day delay. For customers who were completely missed last Tuesday and Wednesday, the challenge might be finding places around the house to put all the overflow trash and recycling from the prior week.

The Cranston Senior Center will also be closed on Monday and the City Council’s safety services, claims and public works committees hvave been rescheduled to Wednesday night.

Forecasters have cited a high degree of unpredictability with the impending storm as the changeover from snow to rain and back to snow could vary dramatically along the shore and several miles inland.

A Winter Storm Warning has been declared and will remain in effect until 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Snow will develop after midnight tonight and the accumulation could be rapid during periods of exceptional snowfall. Snowfall rates could reach one to three inches per hour and the morning rush hour is expected to be messy.

Areas could see rain for a period of time late Monday morning, but the precipitation will switch back to snow before the storm is over Monday night.
