Cranston West Grad Wins National Merit Scholarship
A Cranston West graduate and two Lincoln residents have won college-sponsored scholarships.

CRANSTON, RI โ Anita Y. Fang, of Cranston, has won a National Merit Scholarship from Tufts University. She is a Cranston West graduate who will be continuing her education at Tufts. She is undecided about her major.
Anita is among the three Rhode Islanders who won college-sponsored scholarships in the last round of 900 winners, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Monday. More than 3,200 other college-sponsored award recipients were announced in June. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
In addition to college-sponsored awards, two other types of scholarships were awarded: the $2,500 National Merit Scholarship award, for which all the applicants competed, and corporate-sponsored awards, which may be directed to children of employees.
