Top RI Government Official Has Coronavirus: Report

Director of Administration Brett Smiley tested positive for the coronavirus after he was identified as a close contact.

PROVIDENCE, RI โ€”A top member of Gov. Gina Raimondo's administration tested positive for the coronavirus, according to reports. Director of Administration Brett Smiley tested positive after he was identified as a close contact.

Smiley received his positive result Thursday after he was identified as a close contact of someone with the virus and went into self-quarantine, according to The Providence Journal. Smiley was not present at Raimondo's weekly coronavirus news briefing Thursday afternoon.

The announcement comes just one day after Attorney General Peter Neronha's office confirmed that he tested negative for the coronavirus. Neronha was also identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive and is working from home while completing his 14-day self-quarantine.
