9th Annual Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life™

Our Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life has grown into the largest breast cancer awareness event in the Northeast. The event honors people living with breast cancer during three inspirational days of education, support, and hope. Held annually during Columbus Day Weekend, Flames of Hope draws more than 100,000 visitors to Downtown Providence.

Friday
The three-day event begins with the unveiling of the “Celebrate Hope, Celebrate Life” Calendar on the grounds of Station Park in Downtown Providence.

Saturday
On Saturday, Flames of Hope: A Celebration of LifeTM continues with the official opening of Celebration Village. Located in Station Park, across Francis Street from Providence Place Mall, visitors have the opportunity to undergo free health screenings, learn about innovative health and wellness products, and meet representatives from area hospitals and health care providers.

Additionally, visitors enjoy healing arts activities, cooking demonstrations by local vendors, informative lectures, music, and lots of family fun. This year, the popular “Breaking Boards for Breast Cancer” demonstration by Smithfield-based Mastery Martial Arts will make its seventh consecutive appearance at our event. Saturday evening’s Flames of Hope Illuminations of Life torch ceremony is the pinnacle of Flames of Hope Weekend. Breast cancer survivors and their loved ones carry torches in memory of those who have lost their battles with breast cancer, and to light the way for those who have yet to begin their journeys. The Flames of Hope Illuminations of Life torch ceremony coincides with the final full WaterFire lighting of the season. Saturday evening concludes with live music, dancing, drinks, and light fare at the ARS Pink Party.

Thousands of runners and walkers participate in our Flames of Hope Run/Walk Series, which consists of three races:
• Gloria Gemma 5K: introduced in 2009, the Foundation’s largest fundraiser
• Kids Fun Run: Children 12 and under will have the opportunity to compete for prizes
• Pink Pump Palooza: men and women will participate in a fifty-yard dash wearing heels
