A Ticket To Give

EGHS student Paige Smith is entered to win a trip to distribute TOMS shoes to children in need.

I first heard of TOMS when I was in 7th grade and was casually flipping through a magazine in the dentist’s office. I remember that it was an interview with the company’s fearless founder, Blake Mycoskie. It seemed interesting enough, so I read on. At the conclusion of that article, Blake’s unwavering passion to improve the lives of others not only touched me immensely, but inspired me to want to do the same. And it all starts with shoes.

TOMS shoes has a revolutionary business model, around the theme of One for One. This essentially means that for every pair of shoes purchased, a pair is given to a child in need. This immediately captured my enthusiasm, and encouraged me to purchase my own pair of TOMS. As I wore that first pair until they were threadbare and quite hole-y, I realized I had found my passion. What if I could give a child his or her first pair of shoes? What if I could see the joy in his or her eyes? And ultimately, what if I had the opportunity to change a life?

These questions continued to inspire me, even on pair number five. And my opportunity to do the same as Blake has finally come, but I can’t do it alone.  I’m entered to win a Giving Trip, through which I could potentially distribute TOMS to children in need, as I’ve been dreaming to do since my own first pair.  The contest, Ticket to Give, only accepts the top 50 entrants with the most votes, so this is where I’ll need some help! You’ll have to make an account on the website linked (it only takes a minute, I promise), and then Vote Vote Vote for my entry! It would mean the world to me to finally hand someone their first pair of TOMS. Thank you!
