Annual Graffiti Contest Is Back
The popular EG Housing Authority-sponsored event will take place Saturday, Aug. 4.
The East Greenwich Housing Authority (EGHA) and the Town of East Greenwich are sponsoring the annual Great Graffiti Contest on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the corner of London and Duke Streets. The event is free and open to the public. (Rain date is Sunday Aug. 5.)
Entrants can paint whatever they like in assigned sections of the pedestrian walkway passing below the Amtrak rail line. Registered participants age 11 and older are provided kits containing spray paint, face masks, and gloves, although some people like to bring their own paint. Artists under age 11 are provided with chalk and finger paints.
The painters and the public will vote for their favorite pieces in the junior and senior categories. Voting will close at 1:45 p.m., with winners announced shortly thereafter.
A DJ will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 1 pm. The first 10 registrants will compete in a lip sync/choreography contest.
The event has taken place since 2002 and attracts 50 to 75 participants. Plan to arrive early for the best pieces of wall!
Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Contact Tracy at 885-2610 ext. 13 or at tjohnson@eghousing.com.
