Avengers Athletics Hall of Fame to Add Seven New Members
The seven will be inducted on April 30.

EAST GREENWICH, RI—Seven who made their mark in school sports will be honored at an April 30 ceremony at the Quonset'O' Club when the East Greenwich Athletic Hall of Fame inducts its new members.
They are Warren DiClemente, 1972; Jerry Martin, 1976; Joseph Amato, 1984; Jeff Dumont, 1985; Russ Torres, 1989; Tara Mastracchio, 1991; and Christine Kane Hochstein,1998.

DiClemente was a standout in track, cross country and basketball. He helped the Avenger hoopsters to State titles and set many records in track, one of which stood for 40 years. At Moses Brown Warren was also named Prep School All New England in both indoor and outdoor track. His performances earned him a scholarship to URI, where he ran for two years at the collegiate level.
Jerry Martin was an All State football player and an All State outfielder, who went on to play at the University of Maine.

Joe Amato, a well known local, was a standout wrestler in high school and college, and later, a standout wrestling coach. He was All State, a Greco-Roman champion in R.I. and New England and coached EG to several Division titles. In 1991 he was ranked eighth in the country in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Jeff Dumont was a three sport standout in football,basketball and track. He was heavily honored in football, winning the Thom McCann Award and the Bally National Football All-America Award. He also received honors in basketball and track, with the Uno Uustal Award, the Ucci Award and Future Avenger Award. He later matriculated at Lafayette College on a football scholarship, where he played for four years winning a Patriot League title in '88.
Russ Torres, was also an outstanding gridder. He was a football All Stater, Football Foundation Scholar Athlete, and a RI Scholar Athlete Hall of Famer. He took his talents to Dartmouth College, was a three year letterman and helped the Big Green to three consecutive Ivy League titles, starting at fullback two of those years. He received the AlanHewitt Award for academic achievement and was a first team GTE Academic All-American.
Tara Mastracchio helped EGHS to two State titles and almost a third in her senior year for the Avengers. Shewas a record setting javelin thrower in track and top notch guard in basketball. At Salve Regina she played four sports, captained two, led her soccer team to two championships, and was All New England in track. Also an outstanding student she was a cum laude graduate.
Christine Kane Hochstein was All State in three sports, coccer, basketball and softball. She continued that brilliance at Assumption, where she led their hoopsters to their first ever NCAA tournament. She finished with 556 career assists and a nation leading 90.7 percent foul shooting percentage. She was put into the Assumption College hall of Fame in 2011.
Sue Kirwin Mosca will be presented with a Special Award at the banquet for all her help with EG athletics down through the years.
