Bialy Named To All-State Soccer Team

EGHS senior will play at Providence College next year.

Rob Bialy, a captain on this year's EGHS boys soccer team, was honored to be named to the Providence Journal's All-State soccer team. But he said it wasn't his highest aspiration for the season.

"It's nice to get an individual award," he said, "but it's not what I was hoping for from this season. We wanted to win a state championship. In soccer, it's much more important to have team goals."

Bialy should know what matters in soccer. Not only does he play year-round, he says he's been playing as long as he can remember. His first competitive play was an under-5 league in New Hampshire.

When he isn't playing for the high school's team, he plays for a club team out of Boston called the Boston Bolts, for which he has traveled all over the country for games and tournaments.

He said he is most comfortable playing defense, but for the EGHS team, he often moved to forward to take advatage of his ability to put the ball into the net.

"I moved to forward for some games if we needed to score," he said.

And score Bialy did. He finished the season tied for the state lead with 30 goals, he said.

Bialy's soccer career is not done yet. Last year, he signed a letter of intent to play for Providence College.

"I wanted to go to school in a city, and when I started looking around PC just fit," he said.

PC will fit his soccer portfolio, too, he said, noting that they were ranked in the top 20 in the nation last season and "made the NCAA tournament," he said.

Bialy was also named to the All-Division team with teammates Andrew Perkins and Mike Monti.
