Boys Soccer Team Beats Toll Gate At Home, 4-3
The teams kept answering each other, goal for goal, with EG getting the last word.
East Greenwich came up the winner after a see-saw matchup against Tollgate Tuesday afternoon on Nick Carcieri Field, 4-3. A late-game goal by Tollgate tied it up, but the whistle blew before the ball reached the goal and it was called back for a foul.
"They're a good team. Toll Gate's a good team. They played well," said Avenger Coach Patrick McGuirl. "We were lucky to get out of here. They didn't give up right up to the last minute. They had one called back for a foul. We were very fortunate, very fortunate. We'll take it."
Junior forward Anthony Padrazo scored in the first half for the Avengers. Toll Gate's Josh Sandin tied it up before the half. In the second half, Sandin went on to score two more goals in the second half, with a goal in between by EG's Anthony Melnick.

East Greenwich was trailing 2-3 when senior Connor Pease stepped up with back-to-back goals, sealing the win for the Avengers.
A potentially game-tying goal for Toll Gate was called back near the end of the game because of a foul.

EG senior co-captian Oscar Goodwin had 13 in the goal. Pease, junior Matt Sgrignari, senior dan ling each has assists for EG.
Toll Gate goalie Joshua Giarratano had 7 saves. John Crowley, Jose Beltran and David Moreno-Garcia each had an assist.
"The glory days are certainly over," said McGuirl, referring to last year's perfect regular season record. The Avengers are 8-2 this year on the season.
"We need to work on conditioning," McGuirl said. "We know what we want to do. We play very well at times. When we move the ball around, we play well. Then we tend to forget about that.
"Our strength is playing keep away - pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. We tend to get away from that at times."
The team meets Warwick Thursday away, then will play Narragansett at home on Friday.
