Sometimes couples drift away from each other. It isn't necessarily precipitated by a crisis. Rather, it's a gradual, insidious process of slow distancing from one another. "How did we get here? How did this happen?".........is a common refrain.
Like a boat that has become unmoored, anything can happen when life is adrift. The currents of life might move it in the direction of another port, or a deserted island, or disaster. Sometimes a tug boat is able to guide it back safely. Or there's a rescue by the Coast Guard. Sometimes it makes its way back to home-port on its own.
Of course, people, unlike boats, have responsibility and control. Their predicament feels and looks like an uncontrollable event, yet hard work often allows them to steady themselves and find their way back to safe harbor.
