Almost Unheard Of In EG

Who's up for a hot dog or two? Come to the EG vs. NK football tailgate!

I, personally, have never been to a football game besides the ones at the high school. Even then, it mainly consists of me freezing my butt off, drinking copious amounts of hot chocolate, and occasionally cheering loudly for the amazing play. I think I can vouch for the majority of my friends when I say that football for us isn’t really about the game (sorry guys!) but more about the social aspect. Being with my friends, spending an evening relaxing, enjoying the loss of feeling in my fingers. I suppose that adds to the whole experience of the game.

But whenever I ask any of my friends who have been to actual football games, one of their favorite things is the tailgating beforehand. It gives people a chance to eat, to play a couple games, and to socialize. The one tailgate that ever happened at the high school last year was supposedly a lot of fun. I would know, because my brother was there. So there I was, sitting in a Class Council meeting and this very topic was brought up.

Mind-blowing, I know.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a community tailgate? Where everyone could get together before the game, enjoy a good hot dog/hamburger/veggie burger, and toss around a football? I remember my freshman year my English teacher lectured us on our lack of spirit. At the regular home games, sometimes the numbers in the stands are limited. Very limited. As an athlete, I know how loud supporters can drive you to work harder. From what my friends have told me, tailgating attracts crowds. Friends drag friends who drag friends and tailgating becomes more about catching up with long lost friends after a hard week of school. And then we all end up cheering for the team, drunk off hot chocolate. It’s fun (or so I’m told). And it’s a win-win situation. We all get our social time and game time. See how that works?

So this October 14th, come to the high school around 5. Support EG against North Kingstown’s football team. Share a hotdog with your friends. Drink ridiculous amounts of hot chocolate with me. And, even better, support the EGHS Class of 2013! For just $10, you can get:

-ticket to the game

-food (hamburger, 2 hot dogs, or veggie burger)

-drink (soda, water, hot chocolate)

-bag of chips

-desserts

-games: bocce, corn hole, footballs to toss around

-body painting

-optional reserved parking spot if you buy your ticket in advance (please comment if you want to buy your ticket in advance)

It's a pretty good deal if I may say so myself. So come to a game (that’s not homecoming) and have fun. Freeze your butt off, drink some hot chocolate, and come to the tailgate!

See you on Oct 14th!
