Happy Holidays!

Planning on sticking to those New Year's resolutions this year? Yeah, so was I ...

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! This holiday season is my favorite time of the year. Friends, family, food, presents ... what’s not to love?

It’s also time to make those New Year’s resolutions; to promise yourself to work out at least three times every week, to get those rock hard abs by summer. You’re also going to stay away from sugar, make your daily Dunkin' Donuts run a weekly.  And instead of ordering that double fried triple bacon cheeseburger, you’ll order from the salad menu, right?

I give myself until February 15.

Me and my New Year’s resolutions? Not the best of friends. My resolutions usually last about three weeks. It’s a little sad, I have to admit, but when you are forced to make the choice between buying that adorable dress that would go completely perfectly with those heels you just bought at Nordstrom’s or putting the money in your savings account? Your teenage shopping desires will overpower all the sensibility you thought you had in an instant.  My own incapability to stay true to my resolutions makes me admire the people who say they are going to make an improvement in their lives and then actually follow through with it. Maybe when I get a little older, and I don’t find Forever 21 and Nordstrom so appealing, things will change.

Despite all of my dissipating resolutions, there is one thing that carries on throughout my year. I look around at all of the people who love me and the things I have, and I realize that I am just so lucky. It can be easy to get caught up in what you don’t have, and what latest technology you need (don’t get me wrong here: I’m psyched for the iPhone 5). But our fast-paced world can alter some of important perspectives. Especially during the holidays, it’s nice to just slow down, take a deep breath and appreciate what you’ve got.

Happy Holidays everyone!
