Happy Thanksgiving To Staff Everywhere
Attorney Mike Bottaro recounts a recent Amelia Bedelia-like experience in being thankful for his staff.
In the children’s classics about Amelia Bedelia, the lead character is a maid who tries mightily, but never can quite get the job done. She takes instructions from her employers too literally, leading to a series of humorous misadventures.
My kids and I enjoy Amelia Bedelia because while she is usually making a mess of her job duties, she never takes herself or her predicament too seriously ... also, Amelia Bedelia tends to win over people by baking – one skill where she excels!
This Thanksgiving season, Amelia Bedelia reminds me how grateful I am to our legal staff at our law firm. The truth is that it is just plain hard to find good employees!

Recently, we had an experience at our law office right out of Amelia Bedelia.
Our new temp worker came right in with a cheerful, can do attitude. The first task: water the plants. She watered, and watered, and watered. Unfortunately, the watering included soaking a set of faux plants encased in wood vases – the water ran over the plastic, soaking the wood and the floor!

The next assignment was to feed our fish. She fed those fish all right. Unfortunately, our well-intentioned temp did not realize that there was a glass top to the fish tank…. Our temp had sprinkled the food on the top of the tank WITHOUT opening the glass! The poor fish could see the fish flakes on the top of the glass but could not reach their food!
Like Amelia Bedelia, our temp meant well and had a cheerful disposition. When our employee returned, we wished the temp well ... and we were all thankful that our plastic plants had dried, that our fish were all fed, and that our staff member was back!
