How To Be A Good Citizen

Taking classes at police citizens academy helps you learn how police departments work...and how to be a better citizen.

I wanted to share a learning experience I recently had.

Over the past nine weeks on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 9 p.m., I attended the Citizens Police Academy put on by the Warwick Police Department. It started on March 20 and went until May 15. During these past nine weeks we learned about many different topics, including:

  • Sex Offender Task Force
  • Crime Scene Investigations
  • DUI Investigations
  • Traffic Stops
  • History/ Tour of Warwick Police Department
  • Swat team/Dive Team
  • K-9 officers

We also had to attend to Saturday sessions and do a 2-hour ride-along. The Saturday classes involved driving a police car and shooting/handling a firearm.

Over these past weeks I learned many new things about what the different departments that the Warwick Police have.

This was a great course to take! It taught me how to be a good citizen. They also told us how to act during crimes and not to talk to others about what you just witnessed.

I really enjoyed the Citizens Police Academy. The reason why I wanted to do this was because back in 1999 my mom and aunt took the East Greenwich Police Citizens Academy and they both really liked it. So it was always on my radar to always do this class.
